Data Description
Data File: Child
Content | This file contains Section I (Child Anthropometry) of the questionnare. The CWIQ used a household-based questionnaire which consists of four (4) double-sided forms. Pre-coded multiple choice response questions were used. Information solicited from the children aged under five (5) among others, included place of delivery, participation in weighing and nutritional programmes. |
Cases | 7188 |
Variable(s) | 34 |
Structure: | Type: relational Keys: pid (Child number from the household roster.), hhid (Household identification) |
Version | v2.0 Edited, anonymous dataset for distribution. |
Producer | Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) |
Missing Data | Prior to 2008, missing data and not applicable data were left as blank. These values are not differentiated. The current policy is to identify the missing data as follows: A coded value would be composed of 9s such that the entire length of the field is filled. For example a code of' '999' would be used for a missing field of three characters. Not applicable or skipped variables are left blank. |
Processing Checks | For the first time in the history of the GSS the survey was conducted using Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) “bubble” questionnaire. To enter the data, these questionnaires were read by high speed scanners. The data processing team was able to perform simple on-line edit corrections while scanning. The data was then gradually transferred into a customized Access application for further, more complex validations. The Access application produced clean, validated and documented data files. The clean data generated by the Access cleaning application was then processed through SPSS statistical package to produce a standard output bulletin . The hardware for the CWIQ data processing consisted of four NSC Opscan4 (OMR), computers and accessories. Three scanners were used while the fourth served as a standby. The main program used for data processing was the CWIQ application. It was developed on Microsoft Access and V-Basic. The application among other functions, validates to check inconsistencies in the scanned data. |
Notes | The following are some identified problems with the attached child data file. The child data contains a total of 7188 records. 374 children have missing sex which could be obtained from the household listing in the individual data. This same number have no record of wastedness. Six (6) children have missing age in months whilst that of another six (6) are negatives (invalid). Six (6) children have date of birth missing. Five (5) children have invalid household roster identifications. Two (2) mothers have missing household roster identifications. Six (6) children have missing place of delivery. Responses for Seven (7) children for "who delivered the child" are missing. Close to 300 children have missing (279) or invalid weights and 299 have missing heights. |
