v01Overview
The primary objective of the 2014 GDHS project is to provide up-to-date estimates of basicdemographic and health indicators. Specifically, the GDHS collected information on fertility levels,
marriage, sexual activity, fertility preferences, awareness and use of family planning methods, breastfeeding
practices, nutrition, childhood mortality, maternal and child health, awareness and behaviour regarding
HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and other health issues such as smoking,
tuberculosis, and blood pressure. Also, in addition to anthropometry measurements for children and adults,
the 2014 GDHS provides estimates of anaemia prevalence among children age 6-59 months and among
eligible women, estimates of malaria among children age 6-59 months, and estimates of hypertension and
HIV prevalence among adults. The survey provides updated estimates of basic demographic and health
indicators covered in the 1988, 1993, 1998, 2003, and 2008 surveys.
